Chiang Mai, City has life

Inside the old city of Chiang Mai, there are stories around the belief that the "City has life".

Sawasdee Jao

"Sawasdee" is usually the first word you hear when you arrive in Thailand. But if you come to Chiang Mai you may hear "Sawasdee Jao" instead.  

Visakha Bucha : Hike up to make the merit

"Visakha Bucha" means the worship of the Buddha on the full moon day of the sixth lunar month, which usually falls in May. In the case of a year with an extra eighth lunar month--Adhikamasa (there are 13 full moons in that year)-- the Visakha Bucha Day falls on the full moon day of the seventh lunar month. This tradition occurs throughout Thailand, but in Chiang Mai it is different.

Khan Toke : The welcome of Lanna

Khan Toke Dinner is a warm and welcoming dinner for guests who have just arrived to Chiang Mai or Lanna state. This is quite a unique tradition found only in Northern Thailand.

Would you like some "Express Train"?

Not many foreigners would know what the "Express Train" is, but it is a kind of food that is quite famous in Thailand. Do not miss this because its a popular menu and is one hundred percent from nature, the Bamboo Caterpillar.

Maeping River - Blood of Chiang Mai

The main river of Chiang Mai is Mae Ping River. This is very important river of this area, as well as Thailand, because it is one of four rivers that combine to become the Chao Praya River, the biggest river of Thailand.

Yee Peng - Loy Krathong Festival

Loykrathong occurs throughout Thailand on the fullmoon night of the twelth month (~ Nov - Dec). This festival will show you the long-life tradition of more than 600 years since Sukhothai period.

Yee Peng
is a festival from the same period with Loy Krathong, but there are some different meanings and actions.
